JOHN GEOGHEGAN MRICS
Background
With over 20 years’ experience in real estate investment, asset management and real estate development in Ireland, the UK and CEE, John Geoghegan has been involved at senior management in property assets and portfolios with combined asset and transaction values of well in excess of EUR1bn, in the various market sectors.
Ireland
Most recently, John served as Development Director at Bennett Property Limited, one of the largest private real estate investment firms in Ireland [2013-2019].
During the market turmoil of 2009-2014 John served for a period of time as Asset Recovery Manager with the National Asset Management Agency [NAMA] in Dublin. This role involved the asset management of highly distressed real estate portfolios mainly on the Irish marketplace but also in the UK in an extremely challenging business and economic environment.
Poland
Prior to this, from 2004 to 2011, John led the full cycle development and disposal a large scale high quality residential and commercial property development in the centre of Warsaw, Poland. The Nowe Powisle residential and retail scheme consisted of the full site acquisition, development and disposal of over 300 apartments, 10 retail units and 400 underground car parking spaces in one of the premier Warsaw locations between the Old Town and River Vistula. This scheme also had a large development site that was disposed of separately that is currently being developed as one of the leading office, residential and high end retail destinations in Warsaw. The EUR125m residential scheme was completed in 2010, and is now recognized as one of the leading residential locations in the capital city.
Advisory
In late 2011, John served as expert witness to the legal team of Arthur Cox in Dublin, in a multi-million euro property investment dispute that was settled to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
Consultancy and Agency
Prior to this [2001-2003] John spent some time in the Dublin office of Andersen [now KPMG] followed by a period practicing in commercial auctioneering in the office of Egan Auctioneers and under the guidance of the late Aiden Egan Snr.
Professional Membership
John is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland having graduated from DIT Bolton Street with a Bachelor of Science [Trinity College] Degree and Diploma in Property Economics in 2001.
Voluntary Roles
John also serves as a Board Member of Mullingar Chamber, and was President of Mullingar Chamber [2020-2022]. John is a Board Member of the Mullingar Employment Action Group and sits on the Economic Development, Enterprise and Tourism Strategic Policy Committee of Westmeath County Council representing Mullingar Chamber.
John is co-founder of the Invest Mullingar Initiative in 2018 which promotes investment and development in the town of Mullingar, 80km west of Dublin accessible by motorway from Dublin airport within 50 minutes. With office rents in the midland town at c.EUR15psf vs. Dublin at EUR45psf, Invest Mullingar and its promoters have leased over 40,000sq.ft. of office space in the town to several companies bringing over 200 new jobs to the town during this period. One of these companies, a 65 person / 8,000sq.ft. occupier, will be taking up occupation in Q3 2022.
Invest Mullingar currently has availability of 5,000sq.ft. of shell and core office space [as well as over 50 acres of zoned commercial development land] in the town with full fit-out options for qualifying tenants and leases. In his spare time John also volunteers to advise young people who are considering entering the real estate industry as a career.
